Coffee is more than a drink. For our family, it is a smell, a memory, and part of the journey that raised us.
The smell we once complained about became the smell we now cherish.
For us, coffee memories began long before 58CoffeePontian became a name. They began at home — with our mother returning from work carrying the smell of coffee on her clothes, and with that same aroma lingering around the house day after day.
As children, we did not always understand why coffee took up so much of our lives. We were often called to help weigh the coffee, pack it bag by bag, move 25kg sacks of coffee beans, and handle all the little jobs that came with a family coffee business.
There were days when we complained that our clothes, hair and even our hands smelled like coffee. Only much later did we understand what that smell carried: long hours of work, our mother's persistence, and the quiet effort behind every bag that left the house.
The business started from our home. When there was no longer enough room, we specially rented a low-cost house so there would be a place to roast coffee, weigh it, pack it and prepare orders. It was not glamorous, but it was ours, and it was another small step forward.
From working at home, to a rented low-cost house, and eventually to having a small shop of our own, every stage was built slowly. 58CoffeePontian did not appear overnight. It grew from the work our family had already been doing for years.
Why aroma matters to us.
Maybe because coffee aroma has always been tied so closely to our memories, fragrance is one of the things we care about most when making coffee today. We believe a good Nanyang coffee should already make you want to drink it before the first sip.
We pay attention to the aroma of the beans, the roast, the body of the cup, the smoothness and the balance of the blend. The goal is not simply to make coffee strong. It is to create a cup that is fragrant, full-bodied, familiar and satisfying — the kind of taste that brings people back to the coffee they remember.
Today, as we serve retail customers, cafés, kopitiams, restaurants and business partners, that family memory still sits at the heart of 58CoffeePontian. What once felt like the smell of work has become the smell of home, persistence and everything that brought us here.
